In 2017, while driving past a major plastic recycling center, I happened to be listening to David Bowie’s “Blackstar” album, full of glitches and otherworldliness… I saw the mountains of plastic as a strange lunar landscape…
Months later in the studio I used an older version of an image retouching program and forced it to glitch; to bug.
I enjoyed the act of rendering these mountains of trash appealing, in a candy/pop way… so the viewer is at first attracted and brought in, to discover something pretty heavy they need to then think about.
